Flushing Operations Coordinator
Houma, LA (Shipyard, On-Shore and/or Offshore Environments)The Flushing Operations Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing flushing operations for piping systems on marine vessels and assets. This position develops flushing plans, directs/supervises flushing crews, and ensures that piping systems meet cleanliness standards required for commissioning, maintenance, and system turnover.
The role requires strong technical knowledge of piping systems, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), fluid handling, contamination control, and shipyard/marine safety practices. The Flushing Operations Coordinator ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable procedures, contract requirements, and applicable military and/or regulatory standards.
Essential job functions
- Safety
Enforce safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
Conduct job hazard analyses and pre-job briefings.
Ensure crew members use proper PPE and follow confined space, lockout/tagout, and other safety protocols. - Flushing Planning and Engineering
Develop detailed flushing plans for piping systems on marine vessels and assets.
Determine appropriate flushing methods, equipment, and flow requirements to achieve system cleanliness standards.
Review system drawings, piping diagrams, and technical specifications to plan flushing activities.
Calculate flushing velocities, flow rates, and filtration requirements as needed.
Coordinate flushing operations with project teams, engineering, and quality assurance. - Operations Leadership
Lead and supervise flushing crews during execution of flushing operations.
Assign tasks, provide directions, and monitor crew performance.
Ensure proper setup, operation, and teardown of flushing equipment.
Maintain productivity while ensuring strict compliance with safety procedures. - System Preparation and Execution
Oversee installation of temporary hoses, pumps, filters, strainers, and instrumentation.
Ensure piping systems are properly configured for flushing.
Monitor flushing parameters such as flow, pressure, temperature, and contamination levels.
Verify completion criteria are met prior to system turnover. - Quality and Compliance
Ensure flushing operations meet shipyard, customer, and military standards.
Maintain documentation of flushing activities, including logs, reports, and cleanliness verification.
Coordinate inspections and system acceptance with quality control personnel. - Coordination
Interface with production teams, engineering, quality, and customer representatives.
Coordinate schedules to minimize impact on other customer work activities.
Assist project management with planning and progress updates.

High school diploma or GED required.
Technical training in mechanical, marine, or industrial systems preferred. - Experience
5+ years of experience in shipyard, marine, or industrial piping operations.
Experience performing or supervising piping system flushing, hydrostatic testing, or system commissioning.
Experience working in a shipyard or marine maintenance environment.
Experience working on military or government vessels preferred. - Technical Knowledge

Physical requirements
- Mobility and Access
Ability to board and move throughout marine vessels and assets.
Ability to climb vertical and inclined ladders and navigate gangways.
Ability to work in confined or restricted spaces such as machinery spaces, bilges, tanks, and piping compartments.
Ability to crawl, kneel, squat, and bend while working around piping systems and equipment. - Lifting and Material Handling
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to move hoses, pumps, filtration units/components, and flushing equipment.
Ability to pull and position hoses and temporary piping used during flushing operations. - Standing and Walking
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, often on steel decks or uneven surfaces.
Ability to work on multiple deck levels of a vessel. - Environmental Conditions
Ability to work in industrial shipyard environments that may include:
high noise levels, vibration, heat, humidity or cold; exposure to oils, lubricants and cleaning fluids.
Ability to work in poorly lit or tight mechanical spaces. - Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Ability to wear required PPE, including:
hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, respirators when required - Vision and Communication
Sufficient vision (corrected or uncorrected) to read technical drawings, gauges, and instrumentation.
Ability to hear alarms, instructions, and safety warnings in a noisy industrial environment.
Ability to communicate clearly with crew members in operational areas. - Work Schedule Demands
Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and weekend shifts when required to support customer schedules.
Ability to respond to operational issues during active flushing operations.
This position requires extensive travel (approximately 70%) to shipyards and customer locations to plan and execute piping system flushing operations. Travel may include:
Temporary assignments at customer locations or shipyards
Work aboard vessels during maintenance, repair, or construction activities
Multi-day or multi-week trips depending on project schedules
Occasional extended travel to support critical operational timelines
Travel may be required throughout the United States and potentially to international locations supporting company operations.
